Without a doubt, the BMW 2002 is one of the most important cars BMW has ever made with almost all the BMW sports cars that came after it carrying the same DNA. Almost every parent can tell you their story with a BMW 2002.
Here are some fun facts about the 2002, it was name 2002 because it has a 2000CC engine and 2 doors. The 2002 came into production by accident because of two BMW senior executives who upgraded their 1602s with the new 2.0L M10 engine and the board liked it. The car stayed in production from 1968 to 1975!
The initial idea of the E10 started in 1966 when BMW decided to make a 2 door sports car and called it initially 1602 which carried a smaller engine and it was introduced in the 1966 Geneva Auto Show. The "2002" version was first introduced in 1968.
The creator of the M10 engine is Alex Von Falkenhausen who drove the 1602 as a daily car! Alex wasn't just an engineer, he was also a boy that likes to build up his car and tune it so he ended up installing the "M10 engine" in the little BMW 1602 which turned out fantastic!
The BMW 2002 made its debut in 1968; a base model with a single carburetor developing just 101 hp, which was no real improvement over what the Datsun 510 was delivering.
Our BMW 2002 went through a major restoration recently and drives like new, it is now ready for a new owner to enjoy and shift gears like he/she stole it.
